A popular West Wales former drovers inn, which has become a food destination, has been awarded an AA rosette for culinary excellence.
The award bestowed on Y Talbot in Tregaron recognises “high standards, consistency and precision, serving food prepared with care and with evident selection of fresh, seasonal, quality ingredients. Good understanding and use of technical skills are demonstrated in the cooking with clarity of flavours shining through.”
Earlier this year, Y Talbot featured in the Michelin Restaurant Guide 2016 and head chef Dafydd Watkin’s team goes from strength to strength. During the last five years, Y Talbot has invested in its kitchen team, facilities and customer service in order to make the historic inn a prime food destination in West Wales.
“The commitment to serving excellent food is being increasingly recognised by our growing number of customers, who are not only coming back but also recommending Y Talbot to friends and relatives,” said owner Mick Taylor.
“Dafydd now has an expert kitchen team of five, all trained on the premises and benefiting from the total commitment to quality and consistency that he learned from his training under Marco Pierre White.”
Dafydd said: “I left my position as head sous chef at The Ritz, Piccadilly over five years ago to run my own kitchen here at Y Talbot and I’m delighted to see all the effort paying off with satisfied customers, a strong kitchen team and increasing recognition by various awards.”
After a very busy Easter, Dafydd is unlikely to get much rest now until the autumn!
